Okay, so first and foremost this was NOT a birding holiday, which is a good job as there were very few birds to see! We stayed at the Hotel Sur Menorca which is on the south-east side of the island, which appears to be void of any decent habitat other than dry scrub. Anyway, I made the most of early mornings and spent some time getting to grips with the  juvenile and adult Yellow-legged Gulls that were ever present. I’ll not bore you with everything (not that it would take long) but highlights during the week were, Lots of Cory’s (Scapoli’s) Shearwaters, lots of Sardinian Warblers, plenty of Audouin’s Gulls, Hoopoe, lots of Turtle Doves and Spotted Flycatchers, Green Sandpiper, Pallid Swift, a Purple Heron in off the sea and a Bee-eater. Probably the best day was the day we left! The coach trip to the airport produced 2 Booted eagles and three Balearic Woodchats and once in the airport I managed Red Kite and Bearded Vulture! There appears to be some good birding to be had in the north of the island but I certainly won’t be heading back to the south end anytime soon! However, as I said, this was a family holiday, the kids loved it, the beach at Punta Prima was excellent (for close ups of Audouin’s Gulls!) and the hotel (especially the food) was great!
